Puslinch
This modern poolscape near Guelph was designed for one thing: a calm, architectural backyard that holds up to real southern Ontario weather.
Expansive concrete patios create clean outdoor “rooms” around the pool—open, uncluttered, and intentionally detailed with thoughtful joint layout and subtle accent banding. Grade changes are handled with bold Kawartha Dark armour stone and crisp natural stone steps, giving the property a sense of permanence and scale without visual noise.
Behind the scenes, the real hero is water management. Downspouts were realigned into solid PVC where needed, and a narrow slot drain was integrated between the pool patio and steps—complete with cleanout access—so water moves where it should, even in stormy seasons.
Planting finishes the space without turning it into “garden clutter.” Layered beds soften the hard lines, while privacy trees and screening establish a quiet buffer that will mature over time.
Built through an extremely rainy construction season with multiple trades rotating through, this project is proof that minimalist landscapes only look effortless when the planning, sequencing, protection, and drainage are handled from day one.
Before the Landscape Transformation
Before the landscape work began, the property felt like a newly built home still waiting for its outdoor structure. The backyard was largely rough graded and unfinished, with exposed gravel, temporary erosion control, and no defined patio, pool, planting, or drainage systems in place.
The setting had strong scale and beautiful views, but it still needed the hardscape, grading, and screening elements that would make it feel calm, usable, and complete.

During Construction
During construction, the backyard began to take on its final architectural structure through careful grading, drainage planning, and the early formation of the pool terraces. Armour stone edges and natural stone steps established the main level changes, while the pool, concrete patio zones, and drainage runs were laid out and built in with tight coordination across trades. These photos show the stage where the project was moving from rough site work into a more defined, highly functional poolscape.

After Completion
The finished Puslinch project delivers a calm, architectural poolscape shaped by expansive concrete patios, bold armour stone, and clean-lined planting that softens the space without adding clutter. The pool reads as the centrepiece, while layered gardens, privacy screening, and careful grading make the property feel settled, intentional, and easy to use.
In the final result, every surface and transition feels simple on purpose, with the drainage and structure doing the hidden work behind the scenes.
